Douglas County Youth Orchestra

Providing learning & performance opportunities for  young  musicians in Douglas County.

DCYO expands instrumental music education through instruction and performance for young musicians in the Douglas County area.  DCYO is a non-profit, non-discriminatory organization that brings together Douglas County youth to participate in an affordable, educational program.  DCYO provides orchestral ensembles and offers class instruction on all band & orchestra instruments to foster students’ musical understanding, social growth, and self-esteem at a reasonable cost.

History- Recognizing the need for a performing youth orchestra within Douglas County, the DCYO was founded in 2003 and reorganized in 2007.  In 2008 the orchestra expanded to two performing groups; the Junior Symphony is our younger players and our Chamber orchestra is primarily middle and high school students.

Group Lessons for beginners in Band and OrchestraFor the  2009-20010 school year, Douglas County School District will reduce or eliminate most beginning instrumental music programs for students in 4th -6th grades.  Knowing how important instruction is to create a viable program for young children, the DCYO chose to create a group lesson program.  Group lessons on all band and orchestra instruments will be offered in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch and Parker with certified professional Music Educators.
